Be careful what you wish for! Especially when your wish is for an ALL NATURAL, rejuvenating facial treatment that makes you look years younger… The answer might be a “Vampire Facial”, your “Yes Man”-attitude might make you agree instantly, and your stubbornness will make it impossible to back out! That’s how I found myself at Hudklinikken in Kastrup a thursday morning, ready to get my own blood stamped in my face. I did not do my research very well, except for a quick google search, which made me think I would look a bit like the picture below.
In my opinion, I would make a pretty good Kardashian!
It didn’t turn out exactly like that, but I did get to experience a true Kardashian “treat”. Not knowing what was going to happen, can sometimes be a blessing. If I had known that a “derma pen”-treatment was a lot of small needles being stamped down into your skin (at a pretty high pace), I might not had slept that well the night before! But let me walk you through it, since I obviously survived the treatment, I’m here to tell the tale.
Step one is getting the blood sample, your own blood sample! This isn’t more painful than any other blood sample for the doctor or donating blood (if you’re not a blood donor yet (and you’re able to), then please sign up here). It’s only a small sample, no need for cookies and juice before you get up;)
The blood then goes through a centrifuge that separates the blood (like magic). You’re left with what they call Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). I’m no chemist, but even I can tell that the red blood cells are removed. The yellow stuff is what they use on your skin, and what it contains is everything in the blood that stimulates the skins stem cells to regenerate and revitalise itself from within. PRP is used to treat signs of aging, scars, stretch marks, hair loss and I even read that someone injected it into his meniscus to repair a tear (my injury has made my google searching quite desperate!).
With the PRP ready, it was time for the needles. She would first go over my skin ones with the derma pen, while applying the blood. Then she would use the derma pen a second and a third time in different directions. That way I would get more “holes” in my skin, for the blood to go into. The treatment helps my skin on a deeper level, the full effect of it won’t be visible before these levels has grown to the surface of the skin, which takes about 2-3 months. If we where to go deeper with the derma pen (up to 2.5 millimetre), I would have needed local anaesthetic creme and it would have been more visible for a few days.
Pretty optimistic and ready to go. You can see the video and all pictures (no filter) on snapchat in my story the next few days (snapchat: Ceblak).
Right side done, first time with blood and everything. She would go over my face with the derma pen 3 times in total. You kind of got used to the pain, it really wasn’t that baaaad;)
All done and a bit red, she was able to go as close to my eyes as i wished. She told me that we didn’t need to do that on me (of course!), since my skin around the eyes still were young and tight!! #i chickened out
Then I went home, looking like this (picture above). I was told that the holes from the needles would be closed again within 2 hours. I should just leave the blood on until then. It was a bit sticky (like blood), and felt tight on the skin as it stiffened. After 2 hours, I just washed my face as normal, put on my oils and that was it. My skin did feel a bit raw, as if I had been in the sun for too long. You really couldn’t see anything and the tightness in the skin disappeared when the blood was washed off.
The day after, my skin looked like this. No redness and no sign of any blood or needles. My skin still felt a bit raw, and I made sure to be gentle when cleansing and applying oils.
A few days later my skin was as good as new! This was the perfect timing for a facial like this. If the sun was out I would have had to stay in the shade for a few weeks and be really careful to remember sunscreen. “Luckily” I did not see the sun at all the first 3 days after the facial. My skin hasn’t reacted weirdly in any way, and it hasn’t been irritated by any of my skincare products or make-up.
I really loved this, since my skin tend to be a bit sensitive, and often gets irritated if I’m too rough or use chemicals. Apparently you can get a lot of different “Vampire Facials”, which is why my google search had me a bit concerned (see pictures below). Some put on the blood as it is (a bloody mess), which is cheaper, since you don’t have that PRP process. Others just use needles long enough (2.5 milimetre) that the blood appears aaaaall on it own, ouch! #simplybeauty #simplyfit For full snapchat story: Ceblak
