Simply Fit New York Edition – 6 tips to stay fit and healthy in NYC
Staying active and fit in New York is not a problem. I walk around practically every single day, due to the heat (still summer over here!), I’m not really a fan of the subway. Since I don’t have to be anywhere at any given time, I enjoy the luxury of actually walking from A to B without stressing. I’ve been walking between 10-16 km. per day, and I’ve been working out almost every single day as well.
First thing I did when I moved in to my room in Williamsburg, was to join a gym! For two very important reasons:
- Rehabilitation of my knee! I do all the exercises my physiotherapist told me to.
- And the more obvious one, being able to eat all the delicious foods New York has to offer, without feeling bad!
Here’s a list of how I stay active and healthy in New York city:
Pretty self explanatory. I think the best way to get a feel for a city, is to walk around and absorb all the impressions and vibes. I walk around to different restaurants or coffee shops, work for a few hours and then go for the next destination. It works perfectly for me, I have visited New York several times before, which means I don’t need to do all the touristy stuff again.
I joined Soma Williamsburg because it’s right next to the apartment I’m staying at #noexcuses, and the facilities are really nice with everything I need and steam bath & sauna! I even had a personal trainer kick me around, and I couldn’t move for 2 days. I knew I wasn’t in the best shape of my life after my injury, but still, it was pathetic. Only made me work harder though;) #motivation
I’ve tried some different yoga studios, and doing yoga in the apartment. I have now joined a studio here in Williamsburg that I really love! I will keep on exploring and give you a yoga guide soon.
TAKE THE STAIRS
I’m on the 5th floor in this really cool building, only one lift though, so the stairs are hard to avoid!
I’ve been eating a balanced diet since I got here, but most admit that the intake of donuts, cupcakes and vine has increased a bit. I haven’t gone all crazy, but I still need to cover my basic needs for vitamins and minerals. In comes fresh juices (available at every corner!) and supplements! PurePharma made it really easy for me, by giving me this package of 30 bags, each containing the essential supplements I take back at home Fish oil, Magnesium-Zinc and Vitamin D.
“Shopping is my cardio!” This would have been running if I wasn’t injured:(
I’m still writing and looking after my job remotely, which means sitting down with my computer for long periods of time. Staying active gives me energy, and makes me even more efficient when I sit down and turn on work-mode. Below are pictures from a, so far, very active trip to NYC #simplytravel #simplyfit
